UMIP WELCOMES NEW COLLEAGUES UMIP IP Scouting Team UMIP's IP Scouting Team welcomes Natalie Mera-Pirttijarvi as Commercialisation Executive. Natalie started her role in May this year. Prior to working at UMIP, Natalie spent nine years working at spin-out Nanoco where she made a significant contribution to the development of the latest generation of cadmium-free quantum dots. Natalie is the first point of contact for the Schools of Chemistry, Materials, and Physics and has primary responsibility in the evaluation for opportunities relating to graphene, 2D and other advanced materials. Natalie comments: "Joining UMIP has been a real career shift for me as my time at Nanoco was mainly research focussed. Everyone here has been so warm and welcoming, which has really helped with finding my feet and it has been really interesting and exciting to experience the "other side" of university technology transfer." UMIP IP Services and Information Team UMIP's IP Services and Information Team welcomes Carl Makin as IP and Due Diligence Administrator. Carl is assisting the IP Services team in dealing with patent formalities matters, as well as undertaking due diligence prior to IP transaction and abandonment. In addition, Carl is currently overseeing administration of UMIP's post-deal matters. Carl comments: "It's been great to join the welcoming team at UMIP, which includes a broad spectrum of professionals with a tremendously wide base of skills and expertise. UMIP has a great culture based around innovation and the development of a successful IP portfolio, and I look forward to supporting UMIP's future activities." UMIP Marketing and Corporate Communications Team UMIP's Marketing and Corporate Communications Team welcomes Dr Natalie Cureton who is assisting the Head of Marketing to provide marketing and communications support for the effective Digital Marketing activity of UMIP's IP technology portfolio. Natalie is also supporting Dr Laura Etchells in the planning and implementation of UMIP's Innovation Optimiser initiative as well as supervising the UMIP Fellows. Natalie comments: "After spending three months at UMIP during my PhD, I was very pleased to come back to join UMIP after handing in my thesis. Everyone has been very welcoming and having the opportunity to work across both Digital Marketing and the Innovation Optimiser has been very exciting and rewarding."
