7 LATEST UMIP SPIN-OUT NEWS UMIC ® UMIP ® UMI 3 Academic year 2014-2015 has seen UMIP create 9 spin-out companies in conjunction with University researchers – the highest aggregate for an individual academic year at Manchester. The companies embrace a broad spectrum of research emanating from the University and will develop diverse product and service offerings across a number of high value markets. Life science and healthcare- related companies were again prominent, but it is particularly noteworthy that the Department of Chemistry has given rise to 2 companies this year. The culture at Manchester embraces academic entrepreneurship, and it is exciting that so many academic colleagues want to include spin-out and related activities within their portfolio of activities.
