On Monday 22nd June, UMI

and Graphene Connect held
a Graphene investment
event to coincide with
Manchester's hosting of
Graphene Week (22nd-26th
June), the annual global
Graphene conference.
Graphene Connect is the
industrial workshop series
within the Graphene Flagship
aiming to connect academia
and industry for future
collaboration projects.
Taking
place at The National
Graphene Institute, the
event was an opportunity
for the business and
investment communities to
find out more about
graphene, its application
areas and business potential,
as well as creating an arena
for SMEs and VCs to interact.
Attended by over 45 delegates
from the investment and
SME communities, the
programme included a series
of presentations by graphene
start-ups; 2-DTech,
Bluestone
Global Tech and Applied
Nanolayers and VCs who
have already invested in
graphene-based businesses;
IPGroup, InvestinFuture
and MTI Ventures.
There followed a panel
session moderated by Richard
Young of the BVCA with
representatives from,
Graphenea, FlexEnable and
Haydale as panellists. The
panel described their areas of
business focus within the
graphene market, discussed
the risks of market entry,
gave valuable insights on
funding alternatives, and
explored the potential
of graphene in a variety
of applications.
A matchmaking and
networking opportunity
enabled delegates to
connect and discuss
graphene projects of
interest. CNM Technologies,
XEFRO, CrayoNano,
NanoXplore, Hubron and
Find&Fix pitched their
business case to the
investors present.
Helena Theander, Innovation
Deputy of the Graphene
Flagship, commented: "We
had a very inspiring day.
Several of the participants
gained new valuable
contacts for further
graphene related co-
operation – thereby fulfilling
the aim of the event."
