CONFERENCING AND EVENTS UPDATE… UMIC's Conferencing and Events facilities are in the heart of Manchester's vibrant academic and business community within the Core Technology Facility (CTF), an environment in which ideas spark and innovation and enterprise meet. Our meeting rooms are dedicated spaces for busy people to think, discuss and plan, work through agendas, achieve results, innovate and burst into action. All of our purpose-built rooms are fully-equipped for professional presentations with a data projector, flipchart and free Wi-Fi access included as standard. Over the last year we have welcomed a wide range of clients to the CTF including: BP, the Local Government Association, Insider Media, the Nuclear Industries Association, ICON Development Solutions, InTouch with Health, the Child Poverty Action Group, Skills Solutions, Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, Royal Bank of Scotland, British Association for Cytopathology and Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to name but a few. As well as serving the external business community, the CTF is also growing in popularity as a venue for University departmental away-days and workshops, with organisers highlighting the location as ideal for their events and offering all the benefits of being away from the workplace while still being within easy reach of the University campus. They are the first graduates of IQuBit – UMIP's digital business accelerator - and won second prize in the technology category of the University's Venture Further 2013 business start-up competition. Simon said: "The investment is a great chance to develop our product further, as well as for developing other products, expanding our user base, scaling of our team and professionalising our company structures. We are very happy to have one of the leading European experts in their respective fields on board. The support at The University of Manchester was very helpful at the very beginning as it provided office space and a Manchester Business School student start-up, Zenguard, has just received six-figure investment funding from company builder, Project A Ventures. This follows a move to the investor-backed Axel Springer Plug and Play Business Accelerator in Berlin earlier this year. great network to work with and challenge our ideas." Dr Martin Henery, Venture Further Competition Director, commented: "This is exciting news and that even if you don't win Venture Further, your business concept can still be a success. The drive and passion exhibited by Simon and Markus has transformed their concept into an exciting opportunity that investors want to get involved with. They've done a great job and I can't wait to hear about what happens next."
