UMI3 UMIC ® UMIP INNOVATION CENTRE ® NEW ARRIVALS… NEW STAFF MEMBER… We have seen another successful year with tenant occupancy at 95% currently and set to reach 100% in the New Year. ATRIUM DEVELOPMENT… Aron Cheetham has recently joined UMIC providing admin support to team in the morning and reception duties at CTF reception in the afternoon. Aron comments: "I have been here for three months now and I feel have settled into my role well and I am getting to know more and more people in the buildings. Mornings, I help out Marie and Yvonne with PA and administrative tasks. And in the afternoons, I am busy on reception welcoming visitors and delegates who attend the many events that take place in the Innovation Centre. No two days are the same and I'm really enjoying it." UMIC is looking into the possibility of developing the Atrium area to create more office space to meet the current high demands. Please see below for a design sample of how the area could look. ON-GOING… In October, Hitachi Europe Ltd opened its European Big Data laboratory (EBDL) within the CTF to commence Proof-of- Concept projects for improving healthcare using informatics. EBDL is the centre of R&D for Hitachi's big data business in Europe, and is part of the European R&D Centre of Hitachi Europe Ltd. The projects aim to achieve an increased quality of life while suppressing medical costs by making full use of IT and big data. Specifically, the projects involve the development and verification of a secure health care data integrated platform and a life-style improvement programme for pre-diabetics. Plans to reduce energy usage are under way, UMIC are working with George Bartley from Building sustainability at the University. Stage one of the plan is to install meters within the Incubator building which will accurately monitor tenant usage, giving tenants the control to reduce their utilities expenditure. A seminar on energy reduction measures will be held in the New Year; we hope to see many tenants getting on board to help reduce the overall energy consumption. We will let you know the date in due course. 16
