VEGA DEPLOYMENT Location: AWE The VEGA robot was demonstrated on site at AWE in a non- active test environment (a disused X-Ray lab). The purpose was to validate the integration of the University of Bristol / Imitec collimated gamma spectrometer sensor on to the robot, and to demonstrate the robot to AWE stakeholders (plant management and decommissioning personnel). The robot also demonstrated obstacle avoidance, "beached robot" recovery and high-density pointcloud environment scans. VEGA DEPLOYMENT Location: Dounreay, DSRL An active deployment of the VEGA robotic platform was completed at the Dounreay (DSRL) nuclear site. Deployment was in a low activity gamma waste store and demonstrated the ability of the VEGA to show real-time radiation data, video and depth data. The platform integrated various radiation detectors on-board and provided detailed scans of areas, measuring for alpha, beta, gamma and neutron. A secondary test showed the movement of the on-board arm to be used as a sampler. Combining a small size with low cost, the platform would fill a need in the nuclear decommissioning activities of the UK. VEGA DEPLOYMENT Location: Dungeness, Magnox The Vega robot was taken to Dungeness and its capabilities, in terms of generating 3D radiation and geometric maps, were demonstrated. This demo was enough to convince Magnox that it would be suitable for deployment to survey the area immediately beneath the reactor at Dungeness. This deployment requires some additional modification to Vega (this includes the concept of using multiple Vega robots to communicate wirelessly in a daisy chain so that the area past thick concrete walls can be surveyed). 66 DEPLOYMENTS
