RIWG DEPLOYMENT
Location: UKAEA
At UKAEA the Clearpath Husky with RAIN gamma radiation
detector kit was used to map and then autonomously
navigate between drums placed in the environment by waste
management staff. One of these drums, known to be more
active than the others, was then scanned by the robot using
LIDAR, RGB, and gamma spectroscopy (CeBr3 sensor) to create
a 3D radiation map of the area.
SPOT MINI DEPLOYMENT
Location: Ukraine
The team from Bristol visited the PCHP legacy chemical plant
and the Chernobyl New Safe Containment. Both deployments
used the SPOT-mini quadruped as provided by NNUF-HR. The
visit was beneficial to gather further radiometric data from
both sites, test the capabilities of the SPOT platform and
increase interest in the subject of robotics in nuclear as the
SPOT product is somewhat of a robotic celebrity. Additionally,
the platform was used to carry bespoke RAIN sensor payloads.
This was the first deployment of the SPOT robot in a radioactive
environment. Factors such as dust / debris ingress and
decontamination were reviewed.
