CASE STUDY: MISSION PLANNING
The nuclear industry has sites that
require long-term monitoring.
We are working on autonomous vehicles
that repeatedly inspect the 3D structure
and appearance of elements of industrial
facilities over long durations. Inspection
targets include pressure vessels, storage
drums, welds, and walls.
Repeated visits enable changes due to
corrosion, physical damage or human
interference to be detected.
Using "risk-aware planning" algorithms
we ensure that autonomous vehicles can
complete inspection tasks without failing
and becoming an additional hazard for
future missions.
The next RAIN steps are to integrate
advanced sensing and change detection,
and develop coordination algorithms that
allow multiple heterogeneous vehicles to
work together on inspection tasks.
