UMIP welcomes Steve McDonald as 2D IP Portfolio
Manager. Steve, who started his role in September, is
an experienced IP business manager with a track-record
of optimising IP portfolios and services; negotiating
high-value licences and IP development projects; and
selling IP assets, having originally trained as a patent
attorney. Steve is very familiar with the commercial
environment, having worked for large technology
corporates including Texas Instruments, Nokia, and
the Nidec Corporation through to start-ups including
in his previous position at Nerudia Limited which was
acquired for its innovation pipeline and IP portfolio in
October 2017 for over £100M.
This appointment has created a distinct project team
for 2D materials, and a platform from The University of
Manchester we can actively commercialise its growing
IP Portfolio.
Steve commented: "I am delighted to be joining
the UoM family at a time when Graphene and 2D
Materials are starting to filter through into practical
real-world applications and make a real impact on the
performance of products and applications."
