VENTURE CREATION AT THE UNIVERSITY
To support our campus innovators, the University
can help develop two types of venture:
The Innovation Optimiser is designed to
support those innovators with ideas for
start-ups that have commercial or socially
viable propositions. It sits alongside and
complements UMIP's commercialisation
process and nurtures talent and
opportunities on a broader front than just IP.
The Innovation Optimiser provides a vibrant
and supportive environment for individuals
or teams with an idea, innovation or
venture in which they are empowered
to develop and build their business. It
actively encourages on-campus innovation,
nurtures venture creation and supports
self-directed development for Manchester
innovators to achieve their goals.
The Innovation Optimiser empowers and
helps innovators to think about the balance
between University life and becoming
an entrepreneur, utilising technical and
commercial advice from trusted advisors to
help take their idea to market.
THE INNOVATION OPTIMISER –
EMPOWERING INNOVATORS
Spin-outs formed by academics and
researchers traditionally based on
University IP and technology. This has
been the mainstay of UMIP's respected
IP management and commercialisation
process since 2004.
Start-ups formed by staff, academics,
students and recent graduates with a
strong business idea wishing to develop
them further. These are not necessarily
based on University IP, and may be a
service business or a venture with social or
environmental impact.
