Entrepreneur-in-Transit Update… The Entrepreneur-in-Transit (EiT) scheme continues to contribute actively to the development of early stage IP projects from across the campus including Computer Science; Population Health; Architecture; Physics and Astronomy; Synthetic Biology; and Planning and Environmental Management. The EiT structure is now embedded across UMIP, facilitating both IP driven commercial opportunities and Social Enterprise Ventures which address a social need. For more information, please contact ellie.buckley@umip.com. 8 EiT Wordle Student Enterprise Update… Our Student Enterprise activity is facilitated through a strong strategic partnership with the Manchester Enterprise Centre (MEC). Together we have developed three Enterprise Associate roles to operate as the 'The student face of UMIP/ MEC for enterprise activity', working closely with us to develop engagement methods and initiatives to stimulate entrepreneurship at the PhD level through to PDRAs. The aim of the role is to help early career scientists understand what support and funding opportunities are available to them for enterprise/ commercialisation. The Enterprise Associates have been a resounding success, leading keynote speaker events in each faculty, engaging with over 200 PhD and research students, resulting in 5 student led research disclosures to the team. If you have the motivation and drive to progress your idea or innovation, please contact us to find out more about the support available to you. laura.etchells@umip.com; ellie.buckley@umip.com. Social Enterprise Update… Working with our Social Enterprise award winners to develop a bespoke package of support focusing on business planning and securing funding. Through our continued activity with UnLtd we are also encouraging some of the more advanced social ventures to move towards scale and growth for sustainability. Our ever popular Just Social series of workshops, being led by the newly appointed UMIP Social Enterprise Ambassador, Nicci Dickins from Make it Happen Consultancy Ltd, continues to bring together entrepreneurs to focus on key areas such as legal structures, stakeholder mapping, social value accounting and many others.
