SUCCESS FOR GELEXIR University spin-out, Gelexir Healthcare, which has developed a hydrogel to relieve back pain, has been ranked 23rd out of 49 start-ups to 'keep your eye on' in a recent Manchester Evening News report. This follows on from backing from the Co Angel Investment Service, marking the maiden deal for the angel investment scheme. The service, which is funded by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, has backed Gelexir Healthcare in raising £414,000. Gelexir is looking to raise £950,000 in total so having reached its first close, it will now work with Business Finance Solutions and the Co Angel Investment Service to find funding to take it up to the full amount. 16 UMIP AWARD AT THE FLS RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM 2015 (L-R) Professor Joy Wang with Dr Arnaud Garcon We would like to acknowledge the dedication of researchers involved in technology commercialisation activities through the introduction of awards and prizes for commercial success. At the Faculty of Life Sciences Research Symposium in September, we sponsored the "Most Promising New Innovation" award which was won by Professor Joy Wang for her work on managing ventricular arrhythmia and sudden cardiac death. UMIP's Dr Arnaud Garcon presented the prize of John Lewis vouchers to Professor Wang.
