Un-Convention has moved on from the Mancunian "DIY" to "DIT" - Do It Together. 69 Every event is funded independently though the fundraising methodology that Un-Convention has developed. Un-Convention responds to local issues wherever they are held – musical developments and social issues. Sixty events have been held in 25 countries since 2008. Un-Convention has a core team of two people but collaborates in strong networks in different countries with whom the events are organised and by which Un-Convention its relationships are strengthened. As an example of the power of the Un-Convention model, its partners in Brazil organise the music infrastructure through 200 houses working with 33,000 bands, generating $44m per annum – all by people under the age of 25. Un-Convention is bringing this model back into the UK. Un-Convention was awarded an Innovation Initiative prize by UMI 3 to help set it up as a social enterprise – and the help from the University staff and students in support and mentoring has been "fantastic" and created a great dynamic. It's been great to work with "In Place of War" – the University-based project that researches creativity in sites of armed conflict and has developed extensive international networks of artists and creatives making theatre, street art, music, spoken word and more in response to war. This project now features prominently at Un-Convention music festivals in the UK. www.unconventionhub.org The academics in the University are "up for ideas" and are very progressive.
