PZ Cussons 58 CORPORATE PARTNERSHIP After 2004 the University invested in bringing in a number of internationally well-known academics, including a key German materials scientist with whom the technology leader at PZ Cussons had previously worked. Cussons' technology leader had also visited the chemistry department, which resulted in some embedded lab work by the company. Other links between the company and the University included researchers working on fragrance collaborating with psychologists in the company on the effect of fragrance on the proximity of personal contact, while Business School masters students came into the company to work on projects. Such multiple contacts evidence the developing strength of a relationship moving from individual-to-individual to organisation-to-organisation, all aided by the proximity between the company's R&D and the University and the openness of the University to industrial collaboration. A Knowledge Transfer Partnership with the University which resulted from contacts with materials science enabled the company to develop a novel home hair- straightening kit for the market. A further collaboration through company-sponsored research is aimed at developing innovative skin care products.
