FOCUS ON GRAPHENE SPIN-OUT COMPANY, 2-DTECH NEW STARTER: Dr Margherita Sepioni and Alexandru Delamoreanu Alexandru Delamoreanu Spin-out, 2-DTech Ltd, supplier of fully-characterised, high-quality graphene and other 2D materials, has recently recruited Alexandru Delamoreanu to complement its research team. We caught up with Alex to find out more about his appointment: Alex: What brought you to 2-DTech? I'd heard about 2-DTech within the graphene community, of which I was part in my research, and met Dr Branson Belle, 2-DTech's CTO, at the Material Research Society Conference in San Francisco earlier this year. We got talking and I really wanted to be part of bringing graphene to the world, so application focussed work rather than pure research. I forwarded him my CV, was interviewed two months or so later and started in October. It all happened really quickly! So you worked with graphene before? Yes, I worked under Professor Rodney Ruoff in Austin, Texas, during my Master's thesis. His research group invented the graphene large scale manufacture method. Then, as part of my PhD at CEA-LETI and CNRS-LTM in Grenoble, I worked in industrial semiconductor facilities growing graphene on 8 inch silicon wafers and using the material to make test devices such as solar cells, organic light emitting diodes (OLEDS) and resistive memories. NEWS... 2-DTech now has access to a new process which allows the company to scale-up the quantity of graphene platelets. This will enable the production of large quantities of high quality material which is extremely important for its implementation in composites and other applications. Please contact us to discuss how graphene and other 2-D materials could help your organisation develop groundbreaking products. www.2-dtech.com @2-DTECH 12 What are your aspirations at 2-DTech? What fascinates you the most about graphene? I want to play an important part in bringing graphene to real-life applications, to making products which are revolutionary. That's an easy one! Well, it's a material which shouldn't exist and yet can be a game changer for a multitude of applications. What are you currently working on? I'm working on CVD growth which is essentially the large scale manufacture of graphene, as 2-DTech supply graphene to the academic and industry communities. I'm also working on new applications and, as a company, we are working on different development projects for clients. Alex works with Research Scientist, Dr Margherita Sepioni, who joined the company with co-founder and Chief Technical Officer, Dr Branson Belle. Margherita comments on Alex's appointment: "Alex's background and experience has added an extra dimension to our research objectives. His knowledge of graphene is applications-led and this complements my background in graphene research. He has added great strength to 2-DTech."
