RACE SHARES ROBOTICS EXPERTISE A series of four workshops were held between RACE and Rolls Royce (RR) over the summer. This builds upon the existing working relationships fostered between RR and RAIN. The online sessions covered design and planning for remote service, working with facility and component designers to ensure remote serviceability, bringing robots and automation into high-consequence facilities, and the role of mock-ups and trials in de-risking robotic service. RADIATION EFFECTS ON ROBOTIC SYSTEMS WORKSHOP (Jan 20) Steve Walters and Steve Watts met because of the RAIN Hub. Subsequently they created a workshop that gave participants a background in why radiation can be a problem, how to counter the effects of radiation, and how to calculate the damage that may be caused. The knowledge Watts and Walters bring to the RAIN Hub is invaluable, and this was a great opportunity to share that with the wider community. The workshop was fully subscribed, including overseas attendees. EUROPEAN ROBOTICS FORUM 2020 (Mar 20) Members of the RAIN team attended the 11th Annual Europe- an Robotics Forum (ERF) 'Future Robotics – Unlocking Human Potential'. RAIN shared the' ISCF Robotics and AI for Extreme Environments' exhibition stand in collaboration with the ORCA, FAIR-SPACE and NCNR Hubs. EUROPEAN ROBOTICS FORUM WORKSHOP RAIN delivered a workshop on "Funding Robotics for Extreme Environments: A UK Perspective". This introduced the Indus- trial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF) "Robots for a Safer World" funding method including what type of projects have been funded and whether or not the scheme has been successful so far. Presentations were held by The University of Manchester, UKRI and Bristol Robotics Lab followed by an interesting and productive panel session including Shadow Robot Company, UKAEA and Chevron. 70 COMMUNITY
