OUR GOALS Externally Orientated KPIs UMIP GOAL THREE: REPUTATION To be very well-regarded and to develop and strengthen an exceptional brand image amongst the University's academic community, the international technology transfer associations and the national press for the high quality policy, management, practice and commercialisation of IP and which recognition is commensurate with the University's standing in research, teaching and learning. Target By 2015, for the University to be regularly consulted by key decision-makers, influencers and stakeholders about IP and to have a regular media presence as measured by the number, status and quality of mentions and citations in key reports, surveys, policy documents, pilot exercises and by the Press and other relevant media; and through profiling by key initiatives, publications, and roles performed by UMIP representatives. 1. Year-on-year increase in number of relevant awards to the University, UMIP and/or spin-out companies; 2. Announcement of a major successful initiative on an annual basis; 3. Regular and growing membership of well-regarded sector relevant organisations and associations and the frequency of presence by UMIP representatives and their nature of role and impact made at UK, European and international levels; 4. Growing number of partnerships with relevant key stakeholders; 5. Year-on-year increase in the volume of positive Press coverage (column inches/centimetres) measured by professional monitoring procedures; 6. Year-on-year increase in mentions and citations in key reports, studies, evaluation of technology transfer; 7. Survey by survey improvements in views of the University's performance and impact through IP activities, as judged by the University's Stakeholder Surveys and independent tailored surveys of the external community (firms, investors, government etc.) commissioned for this purpose. Principal Strategies > Attendance at key events, exhibitions and conferences worldwide; > Membership of leading and relevant associations, committee membership and advisory status of these; Internally Orientated KPIs > Forward looking promotional and profiling campaign; 1. Annual substantial growth in the number of academic members of staff assisted by UMIP; > Relevant internal publications, presentation, notices and news stories; 2. Increasing number of academics responding to UMIP initiatives; > Dynamic use of website for external and internal marketing; 3. Annual increases in number of academics subscribing to UMIP's portal(s) and business deriving from these; > Participation in relevant University committees and activities; 4. Increasing the number of Schools being assisted on a consistent basis; > External and internal feedback systems; 5. Survey-by-survey improvements in the comments/feedback about technology transfer service and performance in the University's Staff Satisfaction Survey. > A positive IP Policy which aims to make the University the preferred destination for innovators and creators of IP; > Engaging with policymakers, opinion formers and other appropriate people/partners; > A responsible approach to business practices; 14 > Complying entirely with the University's Social and Ethical stance and policy.
