>> In step with direction and strategy, the Board���s other main responsibility is governance. We take this responsibility very seriously and aim to mirror the structure, accountability and transparency of a small publicly listed company on the stock market. In practice, for UMIP, this means regular Board meetings and key Board committees usually chaired by independent non-executives directors, such as an Investment Committee, a Remuneration Committee and an Audit Committee. There is also regular reporting on accounts and performance to the University, a risk management system and high standards of professional practice present. I have been engaged in many aspects of innovation in academia and industry throughout my career and am firmly convinced that the University has a crucial role to play in wealth creation in Manchester, the region, the country and overseas through the introduction of knowledge as well as new products and processes into many aspects of business and society. The University of Manchester is at the forefront of these activities. I have every confidence that the potential to be hugely successful is here at the University. The UMIP team has shown exemplary energy, drive, commitment and vision since 2004 and the UMIP Board will do its best to direct and guide the UMIP team in helping the University reach its intellectual property goals for the next five years and more.
