Professor Cath O'Neill has spoken to UMIP
about her remarkable career.
The Rochdale-born scientist, academic and
entrepreneur is the Chief Executive of AIM listed
spin-out company SkinBioTherapeutics which
is her second spin-out following Curapel's
formation in 2014.
In an in-depth interview, Cath looks back on
a career spanning more than three decades,
culminating with her thoughts on what it is like
to be a CEO of an AIM listed company.
She also speaks about her early days in research
and how 'making the leap' into the business
world was the most daunting but exciting move
she had made in her career.
Cath comments: "There's no doubt that the
past couple of years have been particularly
exciting. Not only did SkinBioTherapeutics
successfully list on AIM, the company has since
grown and is now able to manufacture at scale.
"I've also been lucky enough to pick up
two UMIP awards this year (Innovation
Champion and Leading Spin-Out) which was
overwhelming. I'm now looking forward to
what comes next, both for SkinBioTherapeutics
and for me individually as I look to maximise my
role at the University in helping and supporting
young academics looking to make that break
into the business world."
